What I Did
As a design and marketing intern, I helped create a more consistent visual presence across the organization’s communications. My work included developing branded graphics, refining layouts, and producing materials that made the organization’s mission feel clear, approachable, and community-centered.
A major part of my role was contributing to Long Beach Gives, where I created marketing materials that helped promote the campaign and encourage community participation. The effort raised $34,000, which funded several initiatives, including a six-month extension of my internship.
Project Overview
The Bixby Knolls Community Foundation was preparing for a period of growth when I joined the team. With a rebrand already underway, my role focused on helping translate that new direction into practical design materials that could be used across digital, print, and community-facing platforms.
The work required balancing strategy and execution. I created visuals that needed to feel polished and trustworthy while still reflecting the warmth of a neighborhood-based nonprofit. These materials helped create a stronger sense of consistency during one of the organization’s busiest seasons.
Long Beach Gives became a key moment within the internship. Through campaign graphics and marketing support, I helped communicate the organization’s goals to donors and community members in a more engaging way. The success of the campaign not only contributed to future programming, but also helped extend my role for an additional six months.
This experience gave me the opportunity to contribute to a live nonprofit rebrand, support a high-impact fundraising campaign, and apply design as a tool for visibility, trust, and community engagement.
